Asano Rin: |
Asano Rin is one of my favorite characters in Samura's work, "Blade of the Immortal." I've wanted to make her red revenge-themed kosode ever since I first laid my eyes upon Sado Nishi's awesome Anotsu Kagehisa. I chose the bright, striking colors seen in the illustration of the "Last Blood" volume. The Manji is my buddy Proctor Silex. The sword is his as well, I "borrowed" it for a few!
Katsu 2k6 was a test run for the costume, at about 90% completion. (I was sewing snaps onto the pseudo-obi at four that morning! Ack!) I'm not done with Rin yet, as I would like to make a full under robe, her harness for her Golden Wasps, the daggers themselves, her sword, and remake her bag. I also need to finish up the pseudo-obi and pseudo-geta.
This was a major learning experience for French seams, attaching collars, and modifying pattern measurements. Almost everything in the red kosode is French seamed, a completely new concept to me, and I am proud of having fairly successfully incorporated it into the project. (I think my seam allowances would probably clothe thirty Third-World children, though ... I should work on wasting less.) Overall, I have mixed feelings on my results.
Approximately 34 hours went into painting the flame design. This was done with Deco Art So Soft Fabric Paint and more patience than I knew I had.
